So far, so good! Love them enough to order another cable,
Geek that I am, when I saw during random browsing cables that not only light up, but show the flow of charging at different rates on the cable itself, I knew I had to have one! I thought Dexim was the only company that was doing this, and that I’d have to pay a premium price for a micro usb cable (iPod/iPad ones are cheaper), but the “neato” factor was too much to overcome.
Somehow, I managed to also find the EZOPower cables, and they weren’t too expensive at all on Amazon! Turns out Newegg sells them too, with free shipping, but this price + shipping tallies up to be the same.
Once I got them, of course, first thing I did was plug in my Galaxy S2, and sure enough, the cables lit up, and after a few seconds, started a slow flow towards the phone in a nice, but not TOO bright, blue. My phone was at 40%, so I was concerned at first that it only lit up at one speed, but further experimentation allowed me to see the different speeds. If the phone was under roughly 60% AND the screen off, the flow was quicker. Same thing for a phone under 50% and turned off. Once it got up to a certain charge, it did slow down, and once finished, turned off completely. Just as advertised. This is an easy way to see if my phone is completely charged without having to turn the screen on, and can be determined from a distance.
Cable is mildly stiffer than your average cheap-o usb cable, but doesn’t feel fragile, or inflexible to the point where you fear bending it at all. It is a great compliment to my Trent 770D portable battery that I keep on hand – anyone with a premium smartphone knows how quickly that battery can run down inside of a day with moderate use.
Admittedly, under the bright harsh lights in our server room, the lights are more difficult to distinguish, but I wouldn’t take a star off for that – after all, who wants it so bright that you can’t charge your phone in your bedroom for fear of a seizure?
Two thumbs up.
